Glad There Was Room on the WW Bandwagon!

I've had two revelations in the past week:
1. I eat too fast
2. I'm impatient

I've been cyber-stalking the lovely, kickass, tattooed Sheryl over at bitchcakes and read here that she spends her entire lunch hour munching on her deliciously, colorful salad. An HOUR! I made a similar salad for lunch today, took one look at it, and thought, "I could inhale this thing in five minutes!"

No wonder I end up feeling bloated and stuffed all the time. I'm not listening to my body or even giving my stomach enough time to tell my brain, "please stop shoveling in more food. I've had enough!"

My goal this week is to work on eating more slowly and actually stopping when I feel satisfied, NOT full!

I also need to work on being more patient. I'm terrible when it comes to delayed gratification. Isn't that what credit cards are for? (See last post for a prime example of immediate gratification and why credit cards can be evil.) And also, I'm not going to wake up 135 pounds tomorrow morning, so I need to just chill the frick out and enjoy the ride!

All of this self-awareness above is courtesy of this:
I joined Weight Watchers online this past Tuesday. Why? Because I needed the science. I can count calories all day long until I'm blue in the face, but I really respect WW approach: if you don't choose wisely, you will starve to death... It really forces you to make smart choices.

Let me explain: if you don't pick healthy, filling foods and instead load up on chips, fries and my person fave Twinkies - then your daily WW points will be gone before you can say, "Why don't my sweatpants fit anymore?" Since starting WW this week, I've started looking at food differently (again. For the billionth time.)

I've tried WW in the past, but thanks to technology it will be much easier to follow the plan. And I'm not a big fan of group meetings, BUT I am a fan of being anal and tracking things on spreadsheets and online. I track my points and weigh-ins online, and even have access to my profile and points calculator on my BlackBerry. Oooooh, fancy!

So jealous you can see your WW on your phone! They don't have that feature in Canada yet... :(

This post reeks of positivity :) "so I need to just chill the frick out and enjoy the ride!"... that's exactly it!

I wonder if I could see WW on my work Blackberry... not that I use WW, but I like having toys to play with :)

Cracks me up - I'm impatient too. Not my best quality.

Great post! I especially love this:
"I'm not going to wake up 135 pounds tomorrow morning, so I need to just chill the frick out and enjoy the ride"

That is exactly where I'm at right now...

I'm currently applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to my dieting behaviour via a book called Beck's Diet Solution. It's about HOW to diet, rather than which diet you actually follow. Eating slowly and always while sitting down are 2 of the messages she gets across in the book (along with many other strategies). The idea being to get back to connecting hunger with eating rather than habit etc.

I'm finding the whole process is making dieting much easier and really helping.

I would definitely recommend that you check it out. You can keep doing WW (which is an excellent plan) but it gives you strategies to help you stick to it and keep on it with fewer lapses.

Just a thought and I'm sure you'll do brilliantly!

so true that slow eating makes a big difference, it took me a really long time to figure that out. one trick i heard is to eat with your left hand, but I'm just not that coordinated. I have however decided that I want to really taste my food, so I try to really make sure I'm enjoying each bite

Amanda - you have to join WW to get the tools on your phone. Trust me, they give nothing away for free! :)

I didn't even think to add the app to my blackberry! Haha, I don't know if I want to be THAT accountable ;)

I need to slow down too. Thanks for the reiminder!

I have the same exact problems! I eat too fast and am way too impatient about my weight loss. I started back up last week too except I go to meetings.

Good luck to you! :)
